Loggerhead vs SigNoz
SigNoz and Loggerhead both take all three signals over OTLP and show them in one place. The difference is what each one is for.
What SigNoz does better
Section titled “What SigNoz does better”- Production, for a team. SigNoz is a full platform: dashboards, alert rules with notification channels, many users, and long retention on ClickHouse. It runs the same way on a laptop and on a cluster, and it has a hosted cloud.
- Query depth. A query builder over ClickHouse reaches further than a filter bar, and a dashboard you build once follows the service to production.
- Linux and servers. SigNoz runs wherever containers run. Loggerhead is a macOS app.
- Open source. The SigNoz platform is open source. Loggerhead is a paid app with a free tier.
What Loggerhead does better
Section titled “What Loggerhead does better”- No containers. SigNoz on a Mac is a Docker Compose stack: ClickHouse, the query service, the frontend, a collector, and their dependencies. Loggerhead is one app, and the receiver is listening when the window opens.
- Made for the machine in front of you. Loggerhead opens where your editor is, keeps the window small, and stores your data in one file you can delete. It is a development tool first.
- Your coding agent reads it. The MCP server inside the app hands the same logs, metrics, and traces to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or Windsurf, on loopback only. See MCP server setup.
- Telemetry linting. Loggerhead names the noisy logs, the unbounded labels, and the secrets before they cost you money on any platform, SigNoz included. See What it checks.
- Nothing leaves the Mac. No account and no hosted service. There is nothing to sign in to.

The honest limits
Section titled “The honest limits”Loggerhead is not a production observability platform. It stores data in DuckDB on one Mac, it has one user, and it has no Linux build. If your team needs one platform from the laptop to production, SigNoz can be that platform and Loggerhead cannot. Use Loggerhead for local and staging traffic, and to clean up your telemetry before it reaches the platform you pay for.
Try it beside SigNoz
Section titled “Try it beside SigNoz”Both speak OTLP. Point one exporter at Loggerhead’s receiver, keep SigNoz where it is, and compare. Download Loggerhead and read Connect your first app.
