# Install the Mac app

> Download Loggerhead, move it to Applications, and open it. The app starts its own engine.

Loggerhead is one Mac app. It contains the window you work in and the engine that stores your telemetry. You do not install anything else.

## Requirements

- macOS 15 or later.
- Apple silicon or Intel.
- About 200 MB of disk space for the app, plus the space your telemetry uses.

## Steps

1. Download the disk image from the [download page](/download).
2. Open the disk image.
3. Drag **Loggerhead** to the **Applications** folder.
4. Open Loggerhead from Applications.

The first launch takes up to 20 seconds. The app shows what the engine does while it starts. When the Dashboard appears, the app is ready.

## What the app starts

The app starts a local engine on your Mac. The engine listens for telemetry on a port on `127.0.0.1` and stores what it receives in a database file in your Library folder. Nothing listens on the network unless you turn that on in Settings.

:::note[Where the data lives]
Each environment has its own database file. The app is sandboxed, so the files are in the app container:
`~/Library/Containers/com.rubics.Loggerhead/Data/Library/Application Support/Loggerhead/workspaces/<workspace>/<environment>/loggerhead.db`.

**Settings › Data** shows the path of the open environment in the **Storage** card, and **Open folder** shows the file in Finder. To delete every log, trace, and metric of that environment, press **Clear all data** in the same card.
